The community acupuncture model provides low-cost treatments ( approx. $20-40) in a group setting. The movement of community acupuncture has been growing rapidly in the last 10 years, particularly in the U.S., and has been very successfully breaking down the barriers so that people from all walks of life can access acupuncture.
Clinics in Canada are fewer and tend to be in the bigger urban centers. Currently, there isn’t a community clinic in Peterborough but if you are interested in this community model, please talk to me about it as it is something that I am very interested in developing.
I’ve been a member of POCA (People’s Organization of Community Acupuncture) and have interned at a community acupuncture clinic, 6 Degrees, in Toronto.
Here’s an article with more information on how community clinics are helping to build and strengthen our collective health.
